Always the ferrywoman,
is silent, experienced,
masterful and adept,
in steering uncharted lands,
mooring, woman and man,
and at ease with it.
She is complete.
For this reason she does
not need speech, because
she has knowing.
Saying much with her waterlike
movements and calm.
I know the rhythms of nature,
the beat of the earth.
“What would you say if you
could speak to me?” I ask.
The answer is given in a thought,
transferred by the movement
of the water.
“Not a word. I would ask you to
think instead. Do you wish to
be told everything? The
mysteries are for you to
resolve. That is the call of the
ancestors.”
Then I understood,
the silence was not of not
speaking, but of knowing.

you’ve been listing to the same voices as I
And such voices! This is lovely. I could use some of that calm knowing….
Aren’t those voices lovely in their openness and deceptive simplicity!!!
Very well-done sweetie. I am ever amazed at the mass of talent here in Soul Food. I often wonder what would happen to the ‘literary world’ were we to publish our tales en masse. Thanks to our Heather I think we would change that world for the better. Keep up the good work sweetie!!
This really speaks to me
Bingo! You hit it right on the head, Monika!
Right! You have taken all my breath away Monika.
You have just spoken for us all. This one is for keeps. Thank you.
So pleased.
